The School District of Lee County is excited to announce Three Oaks Middle School is once again partnering with Suncoast Credit to Union to sponsor the 2024 Scripps National Bee. The Lee County Spelling Bee will provide the opportunity for local students and schools to participate in America’s longest-running educational competition and will send one regional champion to the national competition in May 2024.

“Spelling bees encourage students to sharpen their spelling skills, while allowing them the opportunity to engage with fellow students in a competitive yet educational activity” said Kourtney Berry, Executive Director, Suncoast Credit Union Foundation. “We’re excited for the students to showcase their hard work during this year’s competition.”

Three Oaks Middle School has hosted the Lee County Spelling Bee for 26 years. In 2022, Suncoast Credit Union generously accepted the role of funding the Lee County Spelling Bee as an official Scripps National Spelling Bee sponsor. The 2024 Lee County Spelling Bee will be held at Three Oaks Middle School on Thursday, March 7th at 7:00 p.m.

According to Dr. Connie Harris, School District coordinator for the Lee County Spelling Bee, “The Lee County Spelling Bee provides an opportunity for our local students to develop strong language skills, confidence in themselves, and recognition for excellence in academics.”

Each year, the Scripps National Spelling Bee reaches millions of students across the country and around the world with the classroom materials it provides schools enrolled in the yearlong program. The purpose of the Bee is to help students improve their spelling, increase their vocabularies, learn concepts and develop correct English usage that will help them all their lives. Participation in local bees also provides an opportunity for students to gain experience in public speaking, develop confidence and inspire a love of learning and connection with their peers.
