Legislation
Legislation passed in 2014 requires additional ways in which students with disabilities beginning with the 2014-15 ninth grade class, may earn a standard diploma. The special diploma statute has been repealed, effective July 1, 2015. Information is posted on the FLDOE website http://fldoe.org/ese. Information on graduation requirements for students entering ninth grade, beginning year 2011-12 to 2014-15, is posted on http://www.fldoe.org/bii/studentpro/grad-require.asp.
All students entering high school 2014-2015 school year, or later, will pursue a standard diploma. The current high school diplomas are listed below:
Standard High School Diploma – In accordance with s. 1003.4282(1)-(9) F.S. (24 credit option available to ALL students.)
Standard High School Diploma – In accordance with s. 1002.3105(5), F.S. (18 credit ACCEL option available to ALL students.)
*Senate Bill 850 repealed the Special Diploma options effective July 1, 2015. These options were available to students who were enrolled in grade 9 or higher prior to the 2014-15 school year and had an IEP in place on the effective date of the law (June 20, 2014) that stated the student was pursuing a Special Diploma.
