FAQs

Which professional associations represent the School District of Lee County employees?

The School District of Lee County has two primary employee associations:

  • TALC - Teachers Association of Lee County (instructional employees)
  • SPALC - Support Personnel Association of Lee County (support staff)

The School District of Lee County uses Interest-Based Bargaining (IBB) for negotiations. What is IBB?

Interest-Based Bargaining is a collaborative approach to negotiations in which both the district and the union work together to understand the underlying interests behind each issue. Instead of starting with fixed positions or demands, the teams identify shared goals, explore options, and develop solutions that meet the interests of both sides.

The focus is on problem-solving rather than adversarial negotiation. IBB encourages open communication, transparency, and creativity, which often leads to more durable agreements and stronger working relationships.

How often are contracts negotiated?

Contracts are typically negotiated annually for compensation and benefits. Both sides can open up two additional articles per bargaining session.

Can the public observe bargaining sessions?

Yes. Many bargaining sessions are open to the public in accordance with Florida’s Sunshine Laws. Dates, times, and locations are posted on the district website when sessions are scheduled. Additionally, all bargaining sessions are streamed on the District's YouTube channel.
