Leadership Development

Purpose

Leadership Development engages leaders in meaningful and relevant learning experiences designed to increase the effectiveness and impact of leaders throughout the organization. From aspiring leader to veteran administrator, Leadership Development strives to provide opportunities for continued skill development and leadership growth.

Leadership Development supports the following programs:

Assistant Principal Development Program

First-year assistant principals engage in a mentorship plan that provides opportunities for continuous professional learning and leadership development, ensuring the assistant principal gains a well-rounded understanding of their role in enhancing student achievement and operational effectiveness while aligning with the Florida Educational Leadership Standards.  The Principal will meet, at a minimum, monthly with the new Assistant Principal to provide mentorship for each of the 8 Florida Educational Leadership Standards (FELS).

Assistant principals in year 2 engage in a FELS Field Experience plan that provides opportunities for continuous professional learning and leadership development, ensuring the assistant principal gains a well-rounded understanding of their role in enhancing student achievement and operational effectiveness while aligning with the Florida Educational Leadership Standards.  The Principal and Assistant Principal will work together to select at least one field experience for each of the 8 Florida Educational Leadership Standards (FELS).

Level II School Principal Preparation Program

To enhance student learning growth through the improvement of instructional, administrative, and supervisory services in our state's public schools (p-12), the school district has developed a comprehensive Level II School Principal Preparation Program. The program incorporates professional learning, coursework, field experiences, and internships delivered by district and school leaders. The aim is to ensure that each participant demonstrates the requisite knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors essential to effectively serve as school principals. The district’s Level II training plan is a collaborative effort and is aligned with the Florida Educational Leadership Standards (FELS) and the William Cecil Golden (WCG) Professional Learning Program.

Leadership Mentor Program

The School District of Lee County has partnered with the National Association of Elementary and Middle School Principals (NAESP) to support continuous leadership development through the Leadership Mentor Program. The Leadership Mentor Program supports new school principals, central, and satellite office leaders in creating and leading high-performance organizations, improving organizational efficiency and effectiveness, leveraging data-driven decision-making, improving organizational culture, and focusing on equity.

*All Leadership Development programs are aligned to the Florida Educational Leadership Standards.
