October - Red Ribbon Week

National Family Partnership provides drug awareness by sponsoring the annual National Red Ribbon Campaign. Since its inception in 1985, this campaign has touched the lives of millions of people around the world.  reaching millions of young people during Red Ribbon Week, which is recognized from  October 23rd through October 31st each year. This campaign was in response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, which angered parents and youth across the country. They began wearing red ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and the destruction caused by drugs in America.  For more information on Red Ribbon Week, visit the Red Ribbon Campaign site Sponsored by National Family Partnership.

To recognize Red Ribbon Week, the School District of Lee County Prevention Services hosts the annual Red Ribbon Awards Ceremony in October each year.
