Welcome to Volunteer and Community Involvement

Welcome to The School District of Lee County Volunteer Program!

Thank you for your interest in supporting our schools. Volunteers are an essential part of our mission to ensure that every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. Whether you are a parent, student, business partner, community member, or retiree, your time and talents make a meaningful impact in our classrooms and school communities.

Our volunteer program offers a variety of opportunities—from mentoring and tutoring to assisting with special events and supporting school activities. By volunteering, you help strengthen the connection between our schools and the community while contributing to our shared goal of student success.

How to Become a Volunteer

Volunteer Screening & Safety

The safety of our students is our highest priority.

To ensure a safe and secure learning environment, all individuals interested in volunteering with the School District of Lee County must complete a volunteer application and be approved before serving in our schools.

As part of the approval process:

  • Applicants are screened through the Florida Sexual Offenders and Predators database
  • Individuals with disqualifying offenses will not be assigned to a volunteer role

This screening helps us maintain a safe and welcoming environment for every student.

Determine Your Volunteer Level

Level 1:

  • Level 1 volunteers must obtain clearance through the Centegix system each time they enter the campus or volunteer.
  • Level 1 volunteers must always be in the presence of an LCSD employee. Examples include:
    • Assisting in a classroom or at the school site
    • Assisting with a district-level department or program

* Level 2:

  • Level 2 Volunteer Process - Fingerprinting and Clearance Steps (English)  (Creole)
  • Fingerprinting is required to conduct a state and national background clearance.
  • Duties assigned outside the immediate presence of an LCSD employee include, but are not limited to:
    • Chaperoning field trips
    • Mentoring
    • Transporting students in a vehicle without an LCSD employee present
    • Volunteer (non-paid) athletic coaches

Application Process

To become an approved volunteer:

  1. Complete the online SDLC Volunteer Application.
  2. Upload a valid U.S.-issued photo ID, Passport, or Green Card.
  3. Review the Volunteer Handbook.
  4. Participate in a school-based orientation (if offered).
  5. Receive notification of clearance to begin volunteering.

Volunteers are screened through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) sexual predator/offender database. Depending on your assignment, a fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check may be required.

Become a Resiliency Coach

Building resiliency in children and families is a top priority of the Florida Department of Education. Resiliency Coaches are trusted volunteers who are trained to support children as they build resiliency to face day-to-day challenges. Parents, grandparents, school volunteers, and mentors are eligible to become a Resiliency Coach.

As a Resiliency Coach, you will serve as a trusted volunteer, helping students navigate challenges and build the resilience needed for success.
Steps to become a Resiliency Coach are:

  • Current background screening requirements with our school district
  • Complete an online training (approximately 1 hour)
  • Participate in a 4-hour volunteer practicum and submit a Final Survey

By completing these, you will be eligible to receive a $150 stipend.

Partners in Education

Partners in Education – Bringing the Community into the Classroom

The School District of Lee County believes strong schools are built through strong community connections. Our Partners in Education Program brings together businesses, government agencies, and community organizations with our schools to create meaningful relationships that enhance student learning, improve achievement, and support school improvement goals.

Partnerships go beyond sponsorships – they involve a commitment to at least three collaborative activities each year, fostering sustained engagement that benefits both students and the community. Whether through volunteering, mentoring, providing resources, or supporting school initiatives, our partners help create opportunities that extend learning beyond the classroom.
