Teacher Appreciation Week

I heart my teacher, hashtag Thank A Teacher

Since 1984, National PTA has designated one week in May as a special time to honor the men and women who lend their passion and skills to educating our children. The School  District of Lee County would love for parents, guardians, students and community members to join us as we say thank you to our teachers around Lee County.

  • On Monday, May 4 post a thank you to a teacher!.

  • Tuesday, May 5 is National Teacher Appreciation Day! Every year the National Education Association declares the Tuesday of Teacher Appreciation Week, National Teacher Day. We are asking parents, guardians, students and community members to email a thank you note to their child’s teacher or teachers. Below are some sample notes.

Students can find teacher emails in Google Classroom or they can share their letter to the class in Google Classroom. Parents, guardians and community members can find teacher email address on school websites.

At noon, walk outside and shout "Thank You", cheer or just scream, take a picture or shoot a video and post.

  • On Wednesday, May 6 send teachers a virtual award using social media or email. You can find an award template below.

  • Throwback Thursday, May 7 we want to see pictures! Post a picture of you or your child's favorite teacher.

  • More pictures (or video) Friday, May 8. Take a picture holding a hand written thank you note or shoot a short video thanking teachers. You can thank your child's teacher or just thank our educational hero's.

Don't forget we want to see all the great thank yous! You can

Sample Letters from Parents to Teachers

Dear Ms/Mr. Teacher, As you are aware, last semester was a difficult one for our child. We thank you for inquiring and assisting CHILD'S NAME when you could see that he/she was struggling, even though you had many other students in your class to supervise. It really means a lot that you cared. Sincerely, Parent

Dear Ms/Mr. Teacher, Our respect and admiration for you as CHILD'S NAME's teacher cannot be expressed in words. You have a tangible effect on the lives of the students in your class, and they will remember you for many years to come. Thank you for creating a space for our children to be themselves, and for being a positive example in their lives. Sincerely, Parent

Ms/Mr. Teacher, We are writing to thank you for the astounding job you provide our children. Young people are not always easy to handle, but your patience and firmness have made a huge difference and we thank you for establishing healthy boundaries and creating an environment of trust. Sincerely, Parent

Sample Letters from Students to Teachers

Mr/Ms Teacher — Thank you for challenging me to think further, work harder and dream bigger. Without you as my teacher, I wouldn't’t have been able to achieve what I have thus far. I don’t think people say thank you to teachers often enough. Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you, for the doors you have opened for me, and thank-you for imparting the ability to find and open more doors by myself. Sincerely, Student

Dear Ms/Mr Teacher, Guess what? Until now, math has never been my favorite subject; I always found it a bit boring. But your calculus class somehow broke through my self-imposed resistance, and I am compelled to combine my love of literature and my understanding of math by becoming a science writer. I never saw that coming! Thank you! Sincerely, Student

Dear Ms/Mr Teacher, Well, you managed to do the impossible — make me excited to come to an 8 a.m. class! You are a great teacher. Sincerely, Student
