Two High Schools Make the AP School Honor Roll

Congratulations to both Fort Myers High School and Cape Coral High School for being named to the 2024 AP School Honor Roll! The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results and broadening access for students.

“It is a great honor for our staff and students to have earned Silver Recognition on the AP Honor Roll,” said Fort Myers High School Principal Chris Engelhart. “This accolade is the result of their hard work and the commitment to excellence at Fort Myers High School! Go Greenies!”

Schools can earn the Honor Roll recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing their school’s college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness. The AP School Honor Roll offers four levels of distinction: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Fort Myers earned the Silver Level of Distinction and Cape Coral the Bronze.

“It is truly an honor that Cape Coral High School has earned the Bronze Recognition from College Board,” said Principal Ryan Jackson. “I am so proud of our staff that continue to provide a collegiate level experience for our students and challenge them to be their best on a daily basis. I am so proud of our students’ level of commitment and dedication to taking on the challenges of advanced placement courses head on and excelling in the many classes we offer. This prestigious recognition from College Board is something we will celebrate schoolwide!”

To earn the Silver level, Fort Myers High School had 50% or more of their seniors take at least one AP Exam during high school and 30% or more scored a 3 or higher on at least one exam. The school offers 24 AP courses with 41 sections and 19 teachers.

Cape Coral High School had 40% or more of their seniors take at least one AP Exam during high school and 25% or more score a 3 or higher on at least one exam to earn the Bronze Level distinction. The school offers 18 AP courses with 31 sections and ten teachers.

College Board’s Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) enables students to pursue college-level studies—with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both—while still in high school. Through AP courses in 38 subjects, each culminating in a challenging exam, students learn to think critically, construct solid arguments, and see many sides of an issue—skills that prepare them for college and beyond.

“AP gives students opportunity to engage with college-level work, to earn college credit and placement, and to potentially boost their grade point averages,” said Trevor Packer, head of the AP program. “The schools that have earned this distinction are proof that it is possible to expand access to these college-level courses and still drive strong performance – they represent the best of AP.”
