Two Lee County Educators Honored with Inaugural FGCU Elevate Educator Award

Two outstanding teachers from the School District of Lee County have been recognized with the inaugural College of Education at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) Elevate Educator Award, an honor created to celebrate exceptional mentorship and partnership in teacher preparation.

The 2025 College of Education at FGCU Elevate Educator Award recipients from Lee County are:

  • Colleen Bowman, San Carlos Park Elementary School – Elementary Education Nominee
  • Lindsey Moses, Estero High School – Secondary Education Nominee

These teachers were nominated by College of Education at FGCU teacher candidates who worked alongside them during clinical experiences, recognizing them for their outstanding mentorship, guidance, and dedication to shaping future educators.

Colleen Bowman’s nominating intern praised her for “dedicating every moment to her students,” and noted that she “embraces the individuality of every student, making them feel welcome no matter if it is their first day or their 113th.” Her intern described her as “a one-of-a-kind educator” whose “compassion, empathy, and dedication” left a lasting impact.

Lindsey Moses’ intern described her as “the foundation of my journey in education,” highlighting her “generosity in sharing resources, teaching strategies, and personal experiences.” The intern added, “She exemplifies the power of positivity, love, compassion, and patience in reaching every student.”

“This recognition not only honors individual excellence, but it also underscores the strength of the partnerships between FGCU and The School District of Lee County,” said Inez Mata, Talent Acquisition Coordinator for The School District of Lee County.

The College of Education at FGCU Elevate Educator Award represents a new initiative to elevate the teaching profession by celebrating the often-unsung heroes who help shape future educators—Cooperating Teachers. Out of just three awards presented across the tri-county area, two were awarded to Lee County educators, highlighting the district’s strong commitment to collaboration and excellence in educator development.
