The School District of Lee County is proud to congratulate Chelsey Ralph for being selected the 2022 School Nurse of the Year. Chelsey was nominated by her Assistant Principal at Colonial Elementary School because, “She is a tremendous asset to our campus.”

“I’m completely surprised. I had no idea it was me,” Chelsey says. “Being a school nurse is not what I thought it would be, but it’s so much more. Everything you can do for the kids is very rewarding. I love it. It’s my favorite job.”

As the school nurse, Chelsey is committed to making sure her students basic needs are met and is often their main source of health care. She provides daily check-ins for their health and mental well-being and helps families access community resources for continued services they need or request. Chelsey even delivers a special treat to students on their birthday.

For the staff at Colonial, Chelsey’s impact is felt around the school. She is actively involved with the Mental Health team, 504 team and MTSS teams. She is the “go to” person for many student’s behavior plans to provide support and safety for continued learning. Her expertise and commitment prove effective on the outcome of her students and staff at Colonial Elementary.

“Making sure student basic needs are being met is what Nurse Chelsey does best!” says Colonial Elementary Assistant Principal Jillian Fiora. “She goes above and beyond to make sure students are prepared to learn with no obstacles in their way. She takes concerns seriously and is proactive with her approaches when it comes to our students' well-being.”

“Thank you to all our wonderful hard-working School Nurses for their continued medical care and support of our students and staff,” says Health Services Assistant Director Wally Colon. “Their expertise and excellent medical support to our students on a daily basis allows students to focus on their academics and excel in school. Their compassion and professionalism make them World Class Leaders of Lee County School District.”
