Gwen Boyd Selected as School Nurse of the Year

Congratulations to Gwen Boyd, nurse at North Fort Myers Middle Academy for the Arts, for being selected as the School District of Lee County’s Nurse of the Year. Her service to her school and students is considered “priceless.”

“Ms. Boyd’s caring attitude promotes trust with the student population and any students feel it is very easy to come and share problems with her,” says Principal Dr. Thomas Millins. “Ms. Boyd is very aware of our students in need and always handles situations with them with the utmost discretion. I believe the students at the Academy are better equipped to concentrate on their studies and activities because Ms. Boyd makes them feel safe and valued.”

Boyd is more than just a nurse to the school. She schedules the blood mobile, partners with the Red Cross to provide food for people in the Sun coast Community, coordinates with the Harry Chapin Food Bank to visit the school on multiple days to provide food for student’s families and helps with fundraisers.

“I am overwhelmingly grateful and fortunate,” Boyd says in reaction to being chosen Nurse of the Year. “Grateful to my administration for the recognition, and fortunate to work with them, the staff at North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts, and my fellow district school nurses, who all go above and beyond for our students every day. Working with students is like riding a roller coaster, smiling faces, band aids, and funny stories one minute, emergencies and stories that will break your heart the next. It’s a privilege to be able to help where I can.”

Boyd was surprised with the honor earlier this week by District and school staff.
