Fourteen schools have achieved Level 2 Certification in Marzano High Reliability Schools™. The five-level Marzano High Reliability hierarchy and framework transform schools into organizations where teachers and leaders take proactive steps to ensure student success. Increasing teacher effectiveness is key to improving student achievement. Achieving Level 2 requires practices that:

  • Communicate a clear vision for instruction
  • Provide professional development
  • Monitor instructional practices
  • Evaluate teachers
  • Provide opportunities for collaboration

The HRS framework is a long-term strategic planning guide for schools and districts. It challenges districts to implement practices that ensure all students learn the content and skills they need for success. In schools that have achieved level 1 certification, the teachers describe the school environment as “more collaborative,” “more consistent,” and a place where “teachers are able to focus on learning.” The professional learning initiative has positively impacted school culture and student achievement.

The School District is also proud to recognize the following Teachers for achieving Level 1 High Reliability Teacher Certification:

  • Cara Canino, Peer Collaborative Teacher Lehigh Elementary School
  • Chelsea Mendez, Learning and Leadership Teacher in Professional Development
  • Kimberly Angel, First Grade Teacher at Pelican Elementary School
  • Michelle Lewis, Peer Collaborative Teacher at Lehigh Elementary School
  • Tana Compton, ESE Teacher at Buckingham Exceptional Student Center

Marzano High Reliability Level 1 Teacher Certification means that educators understand and implement a model of instruction, engage in deliberate practice related to growth goals, and monitor the impact of instruction on student achievement. To achieve Level 1 Certification, teachers must submit a variety of tasks that are scored by current and retired educators with proven success in improving instruction.

Representatives from the District, the 49 schools, and the five teachers earning certifications were honored this week by Marzano Resources at the High Reliability Schools Summit in San Antonio, Texas.
