Hertz to Sponsor High School Teaching Academies

The School District of Lee County is excited to announce that The Hertz Corporation is donating $10,000 to sponsor the District’s high school teaching academies. The sponsorship supports the Academies by providing funds for teacher resources, curriculum, industry certification preparation materials, and exam vouchers to assist with preparing our future educators.

“The generous donation made by The Hertz Corporation will bring much needed resources to our high school teaching academies.” Says Rita Davis, Director of Adult and Career Education. “These academies nurture a passion for education as they help to prepare future educators for the classroom. We continue to be grateful for business partners such as The Hertz Corporation who see the tremendous value in investing in high school career and technical education programs.”

Six high schools offer the Education and Training Career Academy. The program offers students educational opportunities, training services, and related learning support with an emphasis on improving public education services. The three pathways include Administration and Administrative Support; Professional Support Services and Teaching/Training. The schools involved are:

East Zone:

  • East Lee County - Principles of Teaching
  • Lehigh Senior - Principles of Teaching
  • Riverdale - Principles of Teaching

South Zone:

  • Estero - Early Childhood Education
  • Fort Myers - Early Childhood Education

West Zone:

  • Ida S. Baker - Principles of Teaching

Teaching Academy graduates are given a Talent Reservation with the School District of Lee County Recruitment Department. The Talent Reservation recognizes them as entering the education field and leaves a door open to them for future employment. Future teachers are also provided post-secondary and scholarship opportunities with local colleges and universities.
