School Board Significantly Lowers Health Care Premiums for Employees

The School District of County is proud to announce major cost reductions to the annual cost of employee health insurance. The Lee County School Board approved paying the entire cost of an employee’s base plan and is providing an additional $4,000 for dependent care.

“We heard from our employees about the challenge of high health care premiums and the Board listened,” said Superintendent Dr. Christopher Bernier. “Thanks to the Board approved benefits, our employees can continue to have their health care premiums fully subsidized.”

The School Board approved benefits increases the Board Contribution from $8,104.80 per employee per year to $9,213.60 per employee per year, which covers the cost of the base plan employee only coverage. The higher plan costs an employee just $26 a month. Adding children to the plan costs $41.21 a month for the base plan and $83.76 a month for the higher plan.

Employees can learn more about their benefits through the employee portal on the School District’s website.

Insurance and Benefits Management Director Bonnie McFarland is briefing the School Board on the plan and the effort to lower costs in 2024, Wednesday, February 1st. Her presentation will be streamed live during the 12:00 p.m. briefing meeting on Youtube.
