Dunbar High School CyberPatriot Team Finishes 3rd in Florida

Congratulations to Dunbar High School’s CyberPatriot Senior Team! They earned 3rd place in the State of Florida in the Platinum Tier Division for the CyberPatriot XIV competition held by the U.S. Airforce Association. The team is made up of seniors Andrew Andersen, Jimmy Lian, Kenise Jackson, Zachary Burkett, Carson Mulvey and Samuel Rose. Their teacher is Jason Perretta.

“Among our many advance technology programs here at Dunbar High School, I can truly say that the skills that students are learning in the cybersecurity courses are above and beyond the basic computer courses you see at other high schools,” says Dunbar High School Principal Carl Burnside. “The industry leading skills utilized in the CyberPatriot challenges are critical cybersecurity tasks that a cyber analyst would experience in real life.”

CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Education Program. At the center of CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition. The competition puts teams of high school and middle school students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company. In the rounds of competition, teams are given a set of virtual images that represent operating systems and are tasked with finding cybersecurity vulnerabilities within the images and hardening the system while maintaining critical services in a six-hour period.
