Annual SOAR End of the Semester Dance

The 4th Annual Special Olympics Adaptive Recreation (SOAR) end of the semester dance is scheduled for December 14, 2018. Middle School students with special needs such as; Social Functioning, Social Emerging, Life Skills, and Functional Skills are invited to celebrate being Super Heroes of Lee County.

“We are excited to host over 150 students this year,” says Dr. Nathan Shaker, Principal at Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle School. “Our Special Needs Superheroes are a ray of sunshine in every school they attend, so getting them all together in one place makes our cafeteria glow. For all those involved, the SOAR Dance helps make December the “most wonderful time of the year!”

The students who attended will be served lunch, get their picture taken in the photo booth, have the chance to do arts and crafts projects, visit game stations or play 3 on 3 basketball on the outdoor courts. It is a chance for them to develop friendships outside their normal school day. So far, ten schools have committed to attending.

The SOAR Dance is being held on Friday, December 14th from 10:00am to 12:30pm in the gym at Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle School at 4750 Winkler Ave. in Fort Myers.
