Memorial Brick Laying Ceremony for Two Lee County Sheriff’s Officers

The Southwest Florida Public Service Academy (4312 Michigan Ave, Fort Myers, FL 33905) will add a 42nd and 43rd brick to their Fallen Officers Memorial at 9:00am on Monday, April 18, 2022. The bricks will honor Sgt. William Diaz and Sgt. Steven Mazzota of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, who both lost their lives in August 2021.

Sergeant Diaz was a recruit of the 151st Corrections Academy class which graduated in July of 2018. He was attending the 85th Corrections to Law Enforcement Crossover class at the time of his passing.

Sergeant Mazzotta graduated from the Basic Corrections Academy in July of 2003 and later graduated from the Corrections to Law Enforcement Crossover Academy in January of 2005.

The ceremony will include brief remarks from Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno, Public Service Academy Director Todd Everly, and the unveiling of the memorial brick by the officers families.
