Melissa Wallace Honored as School Nurse of the Year

The School District of Lee County is proud to congratulate Melissa Wallace for being selected the 2021 School Nurse of the Year. Wallace was nominated by her Principal at Harns Marsh Elementary School because, “we couldn’t do it without her.”

“Melissa is the kind of person you would always want on your team!” says Harns Marsh Elementary School Principal Tracey Zenoniani. “She has a very positive, child friendly approach and our students respond to her in a positive way even when they are upset. She also is a great communicator with our parents and makes them feel comfortable and informed when explaining any needs or plans that would benefit the students.”

Wallace is a nine-year veteran of the School District. She is assigned to both Harns Marsh Elementary and Harns Marsh Middle School in Lehigh Acres. Since the campuses are so close, she frequently visits both schools every day and can respond when needed. She not only serves her students medical needs, but mentors them to help with their academics and makes sure their parents are taken care of as well.

“This year has been so difficult and we’ve all worked closely together,” Wallace says. “I love my school. I love my students and my team that I work with in the East Zone. We couldn’t do it without each other. I’m so excited to represent everybody.”

District and school staff surprised Wallace with a car parade on National School Nurses Day to present her with her award, flowers, balloons and a cake.

“Thank you to all our wonderful hard-working School Nurses for their continued medical care and support of our students and staff,” says Health Services Coordinator Beth Wipf. “Their expertise and excellent medical support to our students on a daily basis allows students to focus on their academics and excel in school. Their compassion and professionalism make them World Class Leaders of Lee County School District.”
