Community Workshop Kicks off Rebuild of Franklin Park Elementary School

The School District of Lee County is holding a community workshop about the rebuilding of Franklin Park Elementary School on Tuesday, May 4th. The meeting is from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Franklin Park Elementary.

The meeting will include an overview of the project, discussion, and visioning workshop. Guests will be able to share their feelings about the current campus and suggest ideas that could be incorporated into the new school.

One of the more exciting features up for discussion is the community services that the new school will provide. Through partnerships with the United Way, Lee Health, FGCU and others, the future Franklin Park Elementary will offer services that support each student and their entire family.

The rebuild also fulfills a promise made to voters when approving the half cent sales tax in 2018. The project should cost about $53 million and be paid for with sales tax revenue. Construction is anticipated to start in the Fall of 2022 and the new school will open in August of 2024. During construction students will be placed in a portable campus at a location still to be determined.

Franklin Park Elementary School is located at 2323 Ford Street in Fort Myers. Future community meetings on other topics about the rebuild will be scheduled as needed.
