22nd Annual Lee County Public Schools Spelling Bee

The best spellers from 21 middle schools across Lee County are going to compete at the 22nd Annual Lee County Spelling Bee on March 10, 2020. The winner will earn a trip to Washington DC to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

“If you have never seen a local Spelling Bee competition or the nationally televised National Spelling Bee, the competition is intense and is an experience our champion will never forget!” says Spelling Bee Coordinator Connie Harris.

42 students in all will be challenged with increasingly harder to spell words until only one remains. They finished first or second at their school spelling bee to earn the right to compete for the county championship.

Judges for this year’s Bee are Barry Harris, Ph.D., Estero High School, Melanie Tolliver, and Denise DeFrehn, Executive Director of the Sylvan Learning Center Lee County. The guest pronouncer is Rob Spicker, Assistant Director of Media Relations for the School District of Lee County.

The 22nd Annual Lee County Spelling Bee is at 6:00pm on Tuesday, March 10th at Three Oaks Middle School. The public and media are invited to attend. Admission is free. Three Oaks Middle School is located at 18500 Three Oaks Parkway in Fort Myers.
