2019 Graduation Rates Rise to New High

The Florida Department of Education just released the 2018-2019 graduation rates and Lee County has shown more improvement.

The graduation rate increased to 83.7% for the class of 2019, a nearly one percent increase from the year before and the highest level ever attained by the District. When charter schools are not included, the District’s graduation rate rises to 92.8%.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • Overall graduation rate increased by .9% (82.8 to 83.7)
  • African American student rate increased by 1.5
  • Hispanic student graduation rate stayed the same
  • English Language Learners rate increased by 3.4%
  • Exceptional Student Education rate increased by 2.3%

“These graduation numbers are highly encouraging,” says Superintendent Dr. Greg Adkins. “They prove the direction we are taking is working and consistently improving student achievement. I am extremely proud of our students for their hard work and our staff for the dedication to student success.”

Eleven high schools graduated more than 90% of their students. Seven increased their graduation rates from 2018, with East Lee County showing the highest improvement, 6.3%. Five of the schools with lower rates dropped less than 1%.

“Congratulations to the Class of 2019,” says Chief Academic Officer Dr. Jeff Spiro. “The graduation rate shows how hard you worked and how successful systems we put into place for each student to reach their highest potential are. Thank you to the teachers and administrators who helped make it possible.”
