Congratulations to Dunbar High School’s Cyber Patriot “Cyber Paw Patrol” Team; they earned 1st place in the State of Florida and 2nd Place Nationally in the Silver Tier Division and the “D:\Tigers” Team earned 2nd place in the State of Florida and 12th Place Nationally in the Gold Tier Division for the Cyber Patriot XII competition held by the U.S. Airforce Association.

Cyber Patriot is the National Youth Cyber Education Program. At the center of Cyber Patriot is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition. The competition puts teams of high school and middle school students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company. In the rounds of competition, teams are given a set of virtual images that represent operating systems and are tasked with finding cybersecurity vulnerabilities within the images and hardening the system while maintaining critical services in a six hour period. Teams compete for the top placement within their state and region, and the top teams in the nation earn all-expenses paid trips to Baltimore, MD for the National Finals Competition where they can earn national recognition and scholarship money.

“My four years at Dunbar High School have been incredible! Being a member of the Cyber Patriot team two years in a row has really prepared me for what I’m going to face at the next level. I’m seriously considering a job in the cybersecurity analyst field,” said senior team member Everett Taylor, “Mr. Dunaway’s real-world experiences really helped us understand the concepts of cybersecurity and prepared our teams for the Cyber Patriot competition.”
