Five Students Named Semifinalists in the 2019 National Merit® Scholarship Program

Congratulations to Fort Myers High School seniors Dahlia Dry, Devin Mix, Timothy Robertson, Ryan Schmelzle and Cynthia Sheng. All five were named Semifinalists today in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program.

“We, as the Green Wave family, are extremely proud of the accomplishments of our five National Merit Scholarship semifinalists,” says Fort Myers High School Principal Dr. Robert Butz. “They have proven what hard work and dedication, through their high school career, can accomplish. They are our future and our future looks very bright.”

National Merit Program Semifinalists represent less than 1% of all high school seniors. To be chosen they must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT® scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.

The National Merit Scholarship winners will be selected in the spring from this group of Semifinalists. 2,500 National Merit® $2,500 Scholarships will be awarded on a state-representational basis. About 1,000 corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards will be provided by approximately 230 corporations and business organizations. In addition, about 180 colleges and universities are expected to finance some 4,000 college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards for Finalists who will attend the sponsor institution.
