Early Childhood Center Earns 5 Star Rating

The Early Childhood Learning Center has been recognized as a 5 STAR Center according to the Early Learning Coalition of SW Florida’s Quality Rating Improvement System (QRIS). This is the first time The Early Childhood Center has received the highest rating possible.

“It is exciting to be recognized by the Coalition after a rigorous review of the program,” explained ECC Principal Jeanne LaFountain. “We are grateful to the Early Childhood Center staff, under the guidance of Kim Gerbasio, for their commitment to offering high quality early care and education services to the children enrolled in the program. Preparing children for future school success is our goal.”

The Early Childhood Learning Center has participated in the Early Learning Coalition of Southwest Florida STARS program since the 2014-15 school year. This Quality Rating Improvement System (QRIS) is used to improve and communicate the level of quality in early childhood programs through observations and assessments in the following areas:

  • Learning Environments and Classroom Interactions
  • Screening, Assessment and Curriculum
  • Professional Development and Staff Qualifications

In addition, bonus points are given for appropriate group size, smaller ratios, and program accreditation. The rating for the QRIS is measured by a 1 to 5 STAR rating with 5 being the highest.

The Early Learning Coalition of Southwest Florida website only lists nine other pre-schools that have earned 5 Stars. According to the ELC, child care providers who participate in SWFL Stars:

  • Provide safe and welcoming environments
  • Offer a variety of appropriate activities through which children learn and grow
  • Engage children in fun, “hands- on” learning experiences
  • Involve parents and families as their child’s first teacher
  • Are dedicated to offering the best in quality child care
  • Are involved in the on-going evaluation of their program
  • Are committed to program improvement
  • Are knowledgeable in early childhood education best practices

The Early Childhood Learning Center was also just determined to again be in compliance with all Department of Children and Families state regulations. DCF staff was on-site October 1, 2018 for an abbreviated inspection. The ECC has earned the privilege of an abbreviated inspection for repeated compliance with licensing standards.
