Two Dunbar High School Teachers Selected as Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) Experts

Dunbar High School teachers Mark Dunaway and Dan Trembley have just been selected as Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) Experts, joining the more than 7,600 educators in the MIE Expert program worldwide. Each year, Microsoft selects innovative educators to share ideas, try new approaches and learn from each other as a global community dedicated to improving student outcomes through technology.

Mark Dunaway was awarded MIE Expert status for the first time for the 2018-2019 school year. “Teaching students in technology is an amazing field to be in.” Dunaway said.  “I like finding the motivational factor that works for my students and then challenging them to go further.  I really feel like I’m making a difference in their lives and preparing them for the future.”

Dan Trembley, the only known Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) of the MIE Expert community is returning for his sixth year. “I am excited to be accepted into the MIE Expert program for my sixth year. The MIE Expert program not only provides me insight into the innovative practices of teachers across the globe, but it also allows me to share my talents and experiences with them as well,” said Trembley.

Dunbar High School educators James Bell and Denise Spence have both been selected in the past for similar Microsoft teacher innovator programs. “As Dunbar High School continues to strive to be the beacon of transformation for our community, it is always impressive to know that an industry giant like Microsoft not only recognizes teacher talent but celebrates how they are making a difference in the classroom” said Carl C. Burnside, Principal of Dunbar High School. “Microsoft’s mission to create a venue for educators to share those innovations with the world is commendable.”

As an MIE Expert, educators build their capacity for using technology in both the classroom and curriculum to improve student learning, advise Microsoft and educational institutions on how to integrate technology in pedagogically sound ways and be an advocate at conferences, events and trainings for how Microsoft technology can improve learning.

“Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts are inspiring examples of educators applying new ways of teaching and learning in their classrooms that motivate students and empower them to achieve more,” said Anthony Salcito, Vice President, Worldwide Education, Microsoft. “We celebrate and support the work they do every day!”

If you are an educator and interested in joining the MIE program, you can begin by joining the Microsoft Educator Community, where you can learn and grow professionally, exchange ideas and learn from others, and make connections globally and earn recognition.
