Is there anything I need to do before coming to work or school?

The School District of Lee County continues to follow guidelines set forth by the CDC and Florida Department of Health. All employees and students should monitor daily for signs of infectious diseases, including COVID-19, influenza, respiratory viruses, and gastrointestinal infections, before attending school or work. Any employee or student that exhibits any new or worsening symptoms of illness or test positive for COVID-19 should remain home.

What happens if I get sick with flu-like or COVID symptoms?

Any employee or student that exhibits any new or worsening symptoms of illness, including COVID-19, influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and gastrointestinal illnesses, or test positive for COVID-19 should remain home. You are able to return to school after 5 days and be fever free for at least 24 hours. No additional testing is required. Employees should follow their school’s protocol to report illness.

Students or employees who do not test positive for COVID-19 or development symptoms are not required to quarantine. Additionally, students and employees can return to school with a negative test result and are asymptomatic or receive written permission to return to school from a medical provider.

If you have severe symptoms, including difficulty breathing, immediately seek emergency care or call 911.

What access is there to COVID-19 testing?

The Florida Department of Health-Lee (FDOH) continues to offer free COVID tests at 3920 Michigan Ave, Fort Myers, FL 33916 by appointment only. An appointment can be made by calling 239-461-6100. At home tests are also available for sale around the US, check with local retailers or pharmacies to see where at-home tests are available.

What should I do if I test positive for COVID-19?

Students or employees who test positive should remain at home and may contact their healthcare provider. You are able to return to school after 5 days and be fever free for at least 24 hours. No additional testing is required. Find additional local resources. Employees should follow their school’s protocol to report illness.

What should I do if I am exposed to someone with COVID-19?

If symptoms of COVID-19 develop, stay home. If asymptomatic, you do not need to quarantine, however, continue to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 for 10 days after exposure. Exposure = within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes within 24 hours. Follow the guidance if you test positive or have symptoms of illness.

Are masks required or optional on campuses, District Office and buses?

As of February 24, 2022, the use of masks is voluntary. Remember, anyone exhibiting illness or symptoms of COVID-19 should stay home.

How are you cleaning campuses?

Ongoing and routine environmental cleaning and disinfection of high-touch areas take place throughout the school day. Additionally, hand sanitizer is available in key places within the schools and hand washing and respiratory etiquette (covering coughs and sneezes) will be taught and encouraged.

When am I considered fully vaccinated?

The School District follows the guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) which states that you are up to date with your COVID-19 vaccines when you have received all doses in the primary series and all boosters recommended for you, when eligible.

Where can you find additional information about COVID-19?

Anyone with symptoms should call a medical provider for guidance on what to do. Medical providers will ask questions to screen people for COVID-19 or other illnesses.
