Academy Overview

Join us for a two week educational experience from Monday, July 15th to Thursday, July 25th (excluding Friday July 18th due to 4 day summer work week schedule) to gain additional knowledge and tools as you begin your teaching career with the District! The academy will be focused on (1) Managing the Learning Environment (2) Planning and Preparation for Teaching and Learning (3) Instructional Resources and Technology. All attendees will be paid for attending the academy.

Eligibility Requirements

In order to be eligible to apply for the academy, you must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be a first year* teacher that is currently teaching or has accepted a teaching position at one of our locations for the upcoming 2019 fall semester
  2. Hold an eligible or be eligible for either a Florida professional or temporary certificate 
  3. Have a valid Florida Statement of Eligibility 

*First Year - Limited previous teaching experience. If you have previous teaching experience, you are not eligible to attend the academy.

Application

The application period is now open  and closes on Friday, June 14th. An administrator at your school must complete the recommendation form below in order to you to be considered for the academy. The recommending administrator will receive notification regarding their application status on or before Wednesday, June 19th.

What are the Academy hours?
The hours are Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Where will the Academy be held?
The Academy will be held at the Lee County Public Education Center.

Who is eligible to be recommended to the Academy?
All first year teachers who are eligible for a Florida professional or temporary certificate and have a valid Statement of Eligibility. 

When is the recommendation period?
The recommendation period is now and closes on Friday, June 14th. Your school administrator must complete a recommendation form for you to be considered for the academy.  Please complete the fields below and submit your application. Administrators and applicants will receive notification regarding their application status on or before Wednesday, June 19th.

Do I have to sign a commitment form in order to attend the Academy?
Yes, all Academy attendees will be required to sign a 2 year commitment agreement with the District.
