Student Open Enrollment

We accept registrations for new students to the District year round, but hold a Student Open Enrollment period for the upcoming school year from January - March. Parents of incoming Kindergarten, 6th or 9th grade students will need to register during open enrollment.

Student Open Enrollment closed for the 2019-2020 School Year
Student Open Enrollment for the 2020-2021 School Year runs from Monday, January 13, 2020 through Friday, February 28, 2020

Student Open Enrollment Process

  • Parents rank schools available for their subzone of residence
  • After enrollment period ends, each application is assigned a random number
  • Each application is weighted based on preferences
  • Lottery process begins

Pre-Printed Applications with PIN

Student Enrollment staggers the mailing of pre-printed applications with PIN. Applications will be mailed on:

  • Friday, January 10, 2020 to incoming 9th graders attending a District school (excluding students enrolled in a Charter school)

  • Thursday, Janaury 16, 2020 to incoming 6th graders attending a District school (excluding students enrolled in a Charter school or District K-8 School)

  • Friday, January 24, 2020 to incoming Kindergarten students currently attending a District Pre-K school (excluding students enrolled in a VPK at a daycare or private center)

Note: Although application mailings are staggered all students may enroll in person from any time during the student open enrollment period

Sibling in Attendance
Letters will be mailed out on Friday, December 13, 2019

  • Incoming Kindergarten students currently attending a District Pre-K school (not VPK at a daycare or private center), will be automatically enrolled in the elementary school their sibling is attending.

  • Incoming 6th graders, that are currently attending a District elementary school (not a Charter school), will be automatically enrolled in the middle school their sibling is attending.

  • Incoming 9th graders, that are currently attending a District middle school (not a Charter school), will be automatically enrolled in the middle school their sibling is attending.

NOTE: Parents may choose to go through the student open enrollment process. Certain situations may preclude automatic enrollment (IEP, Custody Issues)

Tips

  • If you apply AFTER the Student Open Enrollment period and have preferences, they will only be beneficial if there are still seats available in that school.

  • Proximity Preferences* DO NOT help when ranking the proximity school second.

  • Parents do not have to rank a school with a preference as their first choice school.

*NOTE: See information on student open enrollment preferences.
