PreK-12 Education Pandemic Response Task Force

The purpose of the Local PreK-12 Education Pandemic Response Task Force is to advise the Superintendent on the safe reopening and continued operation of schools during a global pandemic.

State of Florida Plan

Governor Ron DeSantis and Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran presented Florida’s plan to reopen schools on June 11, 2020. The reopening plan (Reopening Florida’s Schools and the CARES Act) presented health and instructional recommendations for schools to open in-person learning in the fall of 2020. This plan served as a guide in the development of the District’s Reopening Plan.

Guiding Principles for Re-Opening

  • Equitable Education – Every student should have access to equitable education in order to meet the District’s mission of ensuring students reach their highest personal potentials.
  • Public Health & Safety – The plan to re-open schools must be rooted in sound medical judgement and driven by health metrics so that students, employees and visitors feel safe. as they return.
  • Public Confidence – An effective communications strategy is critical to ensuring public confidence in the re-opening of schools.
  • Fiscal Prudence – The plan should support the highest practicable level of operation while maintaining equitable education and public health and safety.

“Throughout this, two constants remain – keeping our education community safe and ensuring our students receive a first class education in Florida. And our default is to always show compassion and grace.”Florida Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran, Reopening Florida’s Schools and the CARES Act
