Four Schools Chosen as PBIS Model Schools

The School District of Lee County is proud to announce four schools have been chosen as PBIS Model Schools. PBIS refers to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support, which encompasses research-based strategies used to increase quality of life and decrease problem behavior by teaching new skills and making changes in a person's environment.

The four PBIS Model Schools are:

  • Bonita Springs Elementary
  • Cypress Lake High School
  • J. Colin English Elementary
  • Rayma C. Page Elementary

PBIS Model Schools must meet several requirements:

  • Exemplify high levels of PBIS implementation fidelity,
  • Demonstrate generally low rates of exclusionary discipline rates when compared to similar school types across the state
  • Demonstrate equitable student outcomes

The School District uses PBIS to set of clear expectations for student behavior, consistent reward and incentive programs, make data-based decisions, and offer faculty support. The program emphasizes teaching all students desired behaviors that lead to increased academic achievement and a safer more respectful school climate. It also emphasizes the need for school staff to promote appropriate behaviors through explicit direct instruction, modeling, and reinforcement. Minor misbehaviors are viewed as teachable moments rather than discipline opportunities.
