The Southwest Florida Public Service Academy will add a 41st brick to its Fallen Officers Memorial on Friday, August 9, 2019 in honor of Sanibel Police Officer Anthony Neri.

Officer Neri collapsed during a training drill on May 6, 2019 and passed away from natural causes. He joined the Sanibel Police Department as a Traffic Aide in 2012 and an officer in 2015 after a 30-year career as a Revenue Officer with the U.S. Department of Treasury in New Jersey.

The ceremony will include brief remarks from Sanibel Island Police Chief William Dalton and Public Service Academy Director Todd Everly, plus the unveiling of the memorial brick.

The ceremony will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. The Southwest Florida Public Service Academy is located at 4312 Michigan Ave in Fort Myers.

The Southwest Florida Criminal Justice Academy is certified by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Criminal Justice Standards & Training Commission to train students to become Florida State Certified Police Officers, Correctional Officers, and Probation & Parole Officers.
