Bus Stop Change

To request a bus stop change, parents or guardians should begin by contacting their student’s school to submit an Initial/Change Bus Stop Request. Once the information is verified, the school will review the request in accordance with School Board policy.

Bus Patrol

This School Bus Safety Program is designed to reduce reckless driving around school buses and create safer roads for everyone in our community. Data shows that over 90% of first-time violators do not commit a second offense – a strong indicator that the program has the potential to change driver behavior.

Lee County Celebrates Bus Driver Appreciation Month Amid System Improvements

The School District of Lee County is officially recognizing its transportation team in April, culminating in Bus Driver Appreciation Day on April 28th. While the formal celebration is set for the end of the month, district leadership is taking the opportunity to highlight the vital role drivers and attendants play in the daily success of local students.

School Board Vice Chair Bill Ribble issued a statement on behalf of the board, praising the district’s bus drivers and attendants as key ambassadors for the education system.

"They meet students every morning with a smile on their face and warmth in their hearts," Ribble said. "They make sure students have a good day heading home and drop them off excited to see them again tomorrow."

The appreciation comes on the heels of significant logistical transformations within the district’s busing system. Under the Safe Start Initiative, the transportation team has achieved a 95% on-time arrival rate for morning routes.

This improvement ensures that students are in their classrooms when the bell rings, ready to learn, while providing parents with much-needed peace of mind regarding their children's schedules. The district also reported a 10% improvement in afternoon on-time arrivals and is continuing to make regular route adjustments to further enhance performance.

Beyond efficiency, the district is doubling down on safety through the use of Bus Patrol cameras. These cameras are designed to catch and deter reckless driving behavior.

  • The Penalty: Drivers who illegally pass a stopped school bus face a $225 citation.
  • The Volume: The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is currently issuing approximately 5,000 citations per month.

"Our goal is to change this behavior," Ribble emphasized. "We must protect students as they get on and off a bus. Please stop whenever a bus stops."
As the district approaches the official appreciation day on the 28th, officials are encouraging parents and community members to take a moment to thank their local drivers for their dedication to student safety and success.
