The School District of Lee County and the Village of Estero are excited to announce the ribbon-cutting and celebration of the Jeff Sommer Stadium new turf field will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 as the Estero High School Wildcats host the Riverdale Raiders to open the 2024 football season.
Festivities will begin at 5:00 p.m. There will be food trucks and music in a “tailgate” atmosphere prior to the ribbon-cutting and comments from Village of Estero and school officials at 7:00 p.m. Kick-off is at 7:30.
The new turf football field is part of a Lease and Shared-Use Agreement with the Village of Estero for the development of the Estero High School Athletic Facilities into a shared sports complex. The 99-year lease with the Village of Estero will provide Estero High School Athletic facilities to the Village for the construction, development, and maintenance of a community sportsplex. When complete, the community will have access to the complex when not in use by Estero High School.
The turf field consists of EcoTherm Infill providing dramatic surface temperature reduction and requiring no water. EcoTherm is made from recycled materials and cellulose fibers. Additional enhancements and upgrades are planned throughout the stadium complex.
