Parent Engagement Institute Overview

Throughout the year, the Parent and Family Engagement team connects families to essential district, school, and community resources. The ESOL Department offers parents, families, students, staff, and community members a platform for mutual learning, fostering an environment where they can exchange insights and knowledge. This collaborative effort aims to enhance student achievement by implementing effective family engagement strategies.

Parent Engagement Institute Events

The ESOL Department with the Parent Engagement Institute provides a guide for students toward success through active involvement and support from families within the community. The Parent Engagement Institute places significant importance on offering parent sessions and events creating opportunities that nurture strong partnerships between households and schools. Despite the diverse cultural backgrounds, languages, and requirements of families in Lee County Schools, they collectively demonstrate a dedication to their children's academic achievements.

It offers educational sessions and events to parents and families, equipping them with strategies to actively participate in their children's educational journey actively, aiming for all students to excel academically. This objective is achieved through districtwide initiatives like the ESOL Department Parent Engagement Institute and various programs provided by individual schools. Moreover, many Title I schools feature a parent resource center and appoint a Parent Engagement Liaison at the elementary level and a Secondary Engagement Liaison at the secondary level.

Language Line

To continue enhancing the communication between our schools and parents, we have purchased Language Line Solutions. Through Language Line, Lee Schools will be able to provide interpretation services to our diverse families.

According to Section 233.058, F.S. Rules 6A-6.0902, 6A-6.0904, 6A-6.0906, 6A-6.0908, F.A.C. and section l-lV, 1990 LULAC et. al. vs State Board of Education Consent Decree “The Florida Department of Education shall monitor regularly to ensure that all communications (written and oral) between school district boards and personnel and parents of current or former language enriched pupils are undertaken in the parents’ primary language or other mode of communication commonly used by the parents unless clearly not feasible.”

Language Line services are used when there is no available staff at the school to provide on-the-spot translation services. School personnel are to be used first but should not be pulled from classroom instruction to provide such services. If school personnel are not available, Language Line services may be used.
