Congratulations to Heights Elementary teacher Katie Riemenschneider honored Thursday, February 8th as one of Governor Rick Scott’s Shine Award winners.

Riemenschneider is the International Baccalaureate (IB) World School’s IB Coordinator at Heights and teaches lessons to students in kindergarten through 5th grade. She serves on the district’s Advisory Committee to the Superintendent and is a member of the Florida Lead Network.

Riemenschneider is also Lee County’s Teacher of the Year for 2017. Now in her 23rd year of teaching Riemenschneider says, “While I’m so grateful for this recognition I feel that I represent all the amazing teachers in Lee County who do their best every day.”

The Shine Award is presented to teachers and administrators in Florida who make significant contributions to the field of education.

Governor Scott says, “It’s great to see Florida educators committed to providing every student with the opportunity to get a quality education in our state. We will continue our work to ensure they have the tools they need to help their students be successful in the classroom.”

Today’s Shine Award winners were recognized Thursday, February 8th during Governor Scott’s Cabinet meeting at the State Fairgrounds in Tampa.
