Brittany Montano, a deaf education and ASL teacher at Fort Myers High School, is nominated for the 2017-2018 LifeChanger of the Year award sponsored by National Life Group.

National Life Group recognizes and rewards the very best K-12 educators in schools across the United States who are making an impact in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, positive influence, and leadership.

Brittany Montano was nominated by an anonymous member of the community. She is known by her students as “Mom-tano” and is praised as a fierce advocate for deaf and hearing impaired students.

Montano encourages mainstream students and her colleagues to become involved with her deaf students.

“To say that Ms. Montano has changed the lives of hearing-impaired and deaf students over the years would be an understatement,” said her nominator. “She works from sunrise to sunset on a daily basis to create a safe environment for her students to learn and express themselves.”

Each school year, LifeChanger of the Year receives hundreds of nominations from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Seventeen winners will be announced via surprise award ceremonies in Spring of 2018.
