Kids can play in the park, participate in fun activities and get their first nutritious lunch of the summer.

“The reason we wanted to do a kickoff event is to engage the children and families we haven’t reached in the past,” says Cheryl Lock, School District of Lee County Food & Nutrition Services Summer Feeding Coordinator.  “Our goal is to feed more students who otherwise wouldn’t eat during the summer while school is out.”

The School District of Lee County’s Food and Nutrition Department is sponsoring the USDA Summer Food Service Program from June 4th through July 27th.  Participating sites will provide nutritionally balanced meals to all children under 18 during summer vacation when school breakfasts and lunches are not available.  Meals are free and there are no income or registration requirements.

“This is the first time we’re doing a kickoff event for summer feeding,” says Breanna Gustafson, School District of Lee County Food & Nutrition Services Marketing Supervisor.  “It’s a great opportunity to educate students and parents on the resources available to them when school is out, as well as build community through food and nutrition.”
