Mariner Middle SchoolLee Bennett Hopkins of Fort Myers Florida is a renowned anthologist and writer of children’s poetry.  He has donated thousands of books to Lee County Schools over the past 7 years. Additionally, he provides support to local arts schools. During the annual FSPA (Florida State Poets Association, Inc.) Student Poetry Contest, the Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Award for Young People is awarded to the first-place winners in each grade level.

Congratulations to 

  • Jada Gomillia from Mariner Middle School won first place for her poem, "Love" in the 8th grade level and
  • Micaela Francis from Fort Myers High School won first place for her poem "ConRad” in the 9th/10th grade level.

Both students were awarded the Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Award for Young People.
