Tanglewood Elementary School is thrilled to unveil its new Outdoor Classroom with a ribbon-cutting celebration. The event marks the culmination of three years of planning, fundraising and construction. Guests and students in attendance will be treated to an introductory walk through highlighting key features of this innovative learning environment, hosted by designer Jon Romine, Principal-Director of Landscape Architecture at EnSite, Inc.

The community effort, has transformed a small garden plot into a full outdoor classroom. Fundraising efforts by the school’s PTA (Parent Teacher Association), in partnership with the local business community, raised nearly $40,000 over three years for the new outdoor space.

The outdoor classroom creates multi-sensory learning experiences for students in every discipline and grade at the school. Topics like filtration, water cycles, natural world inspired art and music, Florida friendly plants, and urban heat islands will come alive for students. During harvest season later this year, students will also be able to taste the healthy results of their efforts in the vegetable and herb plots.

LeeSchools TV student intern Vince Marcucci gives us an in-depth look at how Estero High School is preparing students for their college, career and community through the Medical Academy.
