The total amount of square footage, including school buildings and administrative offices, is nearly 10 million square feet.

For the 2007/08 school year, there are nearly 80,000 K-12 students enrolled.

Lee County Public Schools is the county’s largest employer. There are approximately 12,000 full- and part-time employees – of those, more than 5,000 are teachers (about 40% of the District's workforce).

There are nearly 700 buses on daily routes.

How many miles do the buses drive and how many students are transported?
Our buses travel about 75,000 miles a day, taking approximately 45,000 students to and from school. In a year, those miles add up to about 13.5 million – put another way, that’s about 28 round trips to the moon!


What are some of the new features on today’s school buses?
In Lee County, our buses are being fitted with a global positioning system (GPS) device that provides a wealth of information (location, speed, time at each stop, etc.) In addition, newer buses are equipped with air conditioning as well as lap belts.

How many meals do school cafeterias serve to students?
Last year, nearly 10 million meals were served to students. The breakdown is roughly 2.2 million breakfasts and 7.2 million lunches. The most popular item is Nachos!


How many volunteers does the District have?
The latest figures show that nearly 16,000 volunteers worked in our District. They logged approximately 425,000 hours, which translates into about $15 million in hourly contributions!

What is the District's budget?
For 2007/08, the total budget is $1.66 billion.  That broke down to roughly:

  • $613 million Capital Fund
  • $111 million Internal Services
  • $55 million Special Revenue
  • $35 million Food Services

What does it cost to run the District?
The cost per day, to run Lee County Public Schools is approximately $3 million.
