Scholarship Overview

This is a $2,500 scholarship available to current paraprofessionals, interested in pursuing teaching, that have an associate degree to attend Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) or Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW)*.

*An alternative college may be selected based on course offerings and individual need.

Application Process

The scholarship application process for FY19 will be held in September. The application period will open on Monday, September 3rd and close on Friday, September 28th. Applicants will be informed of their application status via email notification by Monday, October 22nd. To be considered for the program, an employee must meet the eligibility guidelines outlined below and must submit the following:

  • Completed application
  • Two Letters of Recommendation: One from a teacher or administrator at the school and one personal reference.

The scholarship applications will be reviewed by the scholarship committee which will be comprised of District Staff.

Eligibility Guidelines

1. Current employee with the School District of Lee County

2. Must have an Associate’s degree

3. Minimum of two consecutive effective performance evaluations

4. Must be willing to sign an agreement indicating that the scholarship is valid for one year from awarded date and that upon graduation the recipient must teach for the District for a three year period.
